Last Life in the Universe

This is an unusually hip love/friendship story about a content, yet suicidal Japanese librarian living in Thailand. He is very quietly and exquisitely neat. Despite his outward appearance, a huge tattoo on his back indicates that he has a history with the Yakuza, and that is why he is in Thailand. He meets the obnoxiously hot call girl Noi, when her equally hot sister gets hit by a car while watching him contemplate suicide on a bridge. It is an opposites attract movie, that is not clichè despite operating within a genre. It is visually stunning, and fun to watch their relationship evolve, as they don’t speak the same language, and both speak limited English. 7.5 out of 10.
